Having been around since the 80's it's not hard to believe that U2 are on their twelfth studio album. Their last album was released in 04' making this the longest gap between any album they've released. Their upbeat and energetic first single "Get on Your Boots" has made a peak at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. As for the album the band get back to basics and deliver some of their strongest offerings in years. 「If we get this right, 2009 will be ours」聽起來有點狂妄的語氣，從這個專輯銷售超過1億7000萬張，史上贏得最多座(22)葛萊美獎的天團口中說出卻恰如其分。全世界崇拜的搖滾英雄，用偉大也不足以形容的樂團—U2，他們的地位不需要太多的言語贅述，33年來，一次又一次創造樂壇神話。而2009年藉著睽違5年的錄音室大碟【No Line On The Horizon】，U2再造一幅超乎想像，難以界定的搖滾畫面。
專輯的封面採用了深受達達主義與超現實主義啟發的日本攝影大師杉本博司(Hiroshi Sugimoto)一張呈現海洋與天空密合在一起的黑白攝影作品「Boden Sea, Uttwil」。Bono在解釋新專輯名稱的靈感來源時提到，他座落於愛爾蘭海岸的住處，他的書房窗戶在某個特定時間，當海洋似乎融入到天空之中時，會看到一幅分割成黑暗與白天兩個部分的景色，他表示：「在我的腦海中，這樣的畫面24小時持續出現，那就像是當你向前進的時候，你不是很確定你要走到那個地方，就在這樣子的瞬間，海洋與天空會融合為一體，這是一幅無限的畫面，這是有點禪意的畫面。」
U2再次號召Brian Eno、Daniel Lanois、Steve Lillywhite這組合作超過20年的製作鐵三角挑起新專輯【No Line On The Horizon】的製作大任，專輯分別在摩洛哥、都柏林、紐約、倫敦等地進行錄製。這張最新大碟融合了U2在3個不同時期的最佳特質，它擁有1984年專輯「The Unforgettable Fire」時期永不妥協的情緒爆發，1987年專輯「The Joshua Tree」時期征服人心的信仰與理念以及1991年專輯「Achtung Baby」時期膽識過人的創意構思，就是這3個特質的結合，讓U2再度展現搖滾樂無遠弗屆的影響力。此外，Bono在歌曲創作與演唱方式上也做了相當大的突破與轉變，他擺脫了以往第一人稱的唱作風格，改用第三者的角色扮演方式在每一首歌曲中扮演不同的虛構角色，傳達不同的觀點。
專輯開場首支直衝全美現代搖滾榜第6名，同時也是樂團在2009年葛萊美獎頒獎典禮中開場獻唱的單曲"Get On Your Boots"，混搭了傳統搖滾樂的飆音與grunge的搖滾態度。樂團錄唱一次就搞定的"Moment Of Surrender"是一首長達7分多鐘的感人之作，這首探討存在危機與黑暗啟示的歌曲重現了樂團經典作"One"的超強震撼力。專輯同名單曲"No Line On The Horizon"有著如"Vertigo"一般的龐克搖滾爆衝力道。中板的搖滾曲"Unknown Caller"以輕盈的鳥鳴音效開場，隨即在中東曲風的打擊樂聲中浮現一個走在絕望邊緣的人生故事。重搖滾勁歌"Stand Up Comedy"是Bono在參與2008年「Stand Up And Take Action」對抗貧窮與不平等的活動之後有感而發的創作，呼籲世人要擺脫偽善，投身改變世界的行列，The Edge的吉他技巧也有極為傲人的展現。和U2合作多年的製作人Brian Eno最滿意的抒情搖滾大作"Breathe"則由阿拉伯大提琴帶出引人入勝的旋律。專輯的壓軸曲"Cedars Of Lebanon"中，Bono化身成為一名戰地記者，透過歌聲詳實的審視這個動盪不安的時局。
樂壇盛讚【No Line On The Horizon】是U2自「Rattle And Hum」以來在音樂上表現最多樣化的一張專輯。英國首屈一指的樂評，也是U2自傳書作者Neil McCormick更形容：「精彩的作品！它的偉大之處是現今搖滾樂壇和世界正欠缺的。」 「2009年是屬於U2的一年。」主唱波諾信誓旦旦的說，而答案就在專輯中。
